Frequently asked questions

How do I know which light socket fits my opener?

Match the part number in your opener’s manual or our parts diagrams. The LiftMaster 041C0279 kit fits most LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Craftsman chain and belt drive openers listed in the chart above.

The light still won’t turn on with a new bulb. Is it the socket?

It can be. Check that the bulb is seated and rated for the opener first. On many openers the logic board switches the light, so if a new bulb and a new socket still don’t light, the board is the next thing to check.

What bulb should I use in a garage door opener?

Use the bulb type and wattage your manual lists. Some regular LED bulbs interfere with the opener’s radio and cut remote range; LED bulbs made for openers, such as the LiftMaster LMLED1 and Genie LEDB1 in other opener parts, avoid that.

Do I need to unplug the opener to replace a socket?

Yes. Unplug the opener (and disconnect any battery backup) before you remove the cover or touch the socket wiring.
