Garage door hinges connect the individual sections of your door and allow it to bend and roll smoothly along the track as it opens and closes. Over years of daily cycling, hinges wear, crack, or rust — and a single failing hinge can throw off the whole door's travel. We stock standard replacement garage door hinges in every common gauge and position, ready to ship the same day.
Compatible with most sectional garage doors. These are standard replacement hinges for garage doors that use standard sectional hinges — the type found on the majority of steel sectional doors across North America. They fit most models from Clopay, Amarr, Overhead Door, C.H.I., Raynor, Martin, Ideal, Windsor, Wayne Dalton, and Hörmann. If your door uses a proprietary or specialty hinge, match the part number stamped on your existing hinge before ordering, or contact us and we'll confirm the right fit.
Hinge numbers & positions
Garage door hinges are identified by a number stamped on the hinge — typically #1 through #4. The number indicates the hinge's position on the door: lower numbers sit nearer the bottom sections, higher numbers toward the top, where the door curves into the horizontal track. Center hinges run vertically up the middle of each section, while end hinges sit on the door's edges and hold the rollers. When replacing a hinge, match the number already on your door for a correct fit.
Choosing the right gauge
Hinge strength is measured in steel gauge — and a lower number means thicker, stronger steel. We carry:
- 11-gauge — heavy-duty, for commercial and high-cycle doors
- 13 & 14-gauge — standard-duty, the most common residential choice
- 16 & 18-gauge — light-duty, for smaller or lighter doors
If your current hinges are bending or fatiguing, stepping up to a heavier gauge adds durability. Use the comparison chart below to match a part number, hinge number, gauge, and dimensions to what's on your door.

| Garage Door Hinge Gauge Guide | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Gauge | Duty / Strength | Best For | Shop |
| 11 GA | Heavy-duty (thickest) | Commercial & high-cycle doors | 11 GA hinges |
| 13 GA | Heavy standard-duty | Reinforced residential doors | 13 GA hinges |
| 14 GA | Standard-duty (most common) | Typical residential doors | 14 GA hinges |
| 16 GA | Light-to-standard duty | Lighter residential doors | 16 GA hinges |
| 18 GA | Light-duty (thinnest) | Small & lightweight doors | 18 GA hinges |
Remember: a lower gauge number means thicker, stronger steel. Match the hinge number (#1–#4) stamped on your existing hinge.
Heavy-Duty & Commercial Garage Door Hinges
For commercial doors, high-cycle openings, or any door that takes heavy daily use, we carry heavy-duty 11-gauge garage door hinges. The thicker 11-gauge steel resists bending and fatigue far better than standard residential hinges, making it the right choice for warehouses, loading docks, and busy commercial garage doors. If your current hinges are flexing or wearing out quickly, upgrading to heavy-duty commercial-grade hinges extends the life of your door system.
Garage Door Hinge Replacement
Replacing a garage door hinge is a straightforward repair you can usually do yourself in a few minutes. Hinges along the body of the door aren't under spring tension, so the job is safe with basic tools — just avoid the spring system and cables at the top of the door, which are under high tension.
- Close the garage door fully and disconnect the opener.
- Locate the worn or cracked hinge and note the number stamped on it (#1–#4).
- Unbolt the hinge from both door sections with a socket or nut driver.
- Position the matching replacement hinge and bolt it back in place.
- Reconnect the opener and cycle the door to confirm smooth travel.
Order the same hinge number and gauge as the one you removed for a correct fit. Replacing several worn hinges at once? Do them one at a time so the door stays aligned.
